Mark Your Calendar: The Nepali New Year 2083 Grand Picnic Is the Community Event of the Year

Spring is arriving in California, and with it comes one of the most exciting events on the Nepali-American calendar — the Nepali New Year 2083 Grand Picnic, organized by the United Nepalese of California (UNC).

Whether you live in Santa Rosa, the Bay Area, or anywhere in Northern California, this is your invitation to step outside, breathe fresh air, and celebrate the new year surrounded by your community, your culture, and all the joy that comes with both.

What Is Nepali New Year (Naya Barsha)?

The Nepali New Year, celebrated according to the Bikram Sambat (B.S.) calendar, typically falls in mid-April. For the Nepali community worldwide, it's a time of renewal — a moment to reflect on the past year, welcome new beginnings, and celebrate with loved ones.

In Nepal, the streets come alive with music, processions, and festivities. In California, UNC makes sure the spirit of that celebration travels across the ocean and lands right in the heart of the community.

Why This Event Matters

For Nepalese families scattered across California, events like this are more than entertainment — they are anchors of cultural identity. They are the moments where a child first hears Nepali music played live, where teenagers reconnect with peers who share their heritage, and where elders feel the warmth of community they thought they left behind in Nepal.

Spring Lake Regional Park provides a stunning natural backdrop for this gathering — open skies, green surroundings, and plenty of space for a community that deserves room to grow and celebrate freely.
