UNC Achieves Major Milestone: Officially Granted 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Status by the IRS

ROHNERT PARK, CA — The United Nepalese of California (UNC) is proud to announce a landmark achievement in its organizational journey: the official recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), with EIN: 39-3919914.

This milestone marks a transformative moment for the Nepalese community across California — one that opens new doors for growth, credibility, and community impact.

What This Means for Our Community

The 501(c)(3) designation is not just a legal status — it is a declaration of UNC's commitment to transparency, accountability, and long-term service to the Nepalese community. Here is what this achievement means in practical terms:

  • All donations to UNC are now fully tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers
  • UNC is now eligible to apply for government and private grants
  • Corporate sponsors and foundations can now officially partner with UNC
  • The organization gains increased credibility and trust among institutions, local governments, and potential partners
  • UNC is better positioned to pursue its long-term goal of establishing a permanent Nepalese Cultural & Community Center in Northern California

Months of Dedicated Work Behind the Achievement

This recognition did not come overnight. It is the result of months of tireless effort by UNC's Executive Committee — navigating complex IRS application requirements, preparing detailed organizational documentation, and demonstrating the nonprofit's genuine commitment to public benefit.

The Executive Committee worked diligently to outline UNC's programs, mission, governance structure, and financial practices in a manner that satisfied the IRS's rigorous standards for tax-exempt status.

President Deepak Timsina expressed his gratitude and excitement:

"This is a proud day for every Nepali in California who has believed in this organization. Our 501(c)(3) status is proof that we are building something real, something lasting — and we are just getting started."

A New Chapter Begins

With this official recognition, UNC enters a new phase of its mission. The organization can now more effectively raise funds, attract community partners, and expand its programs in cultural preservation, youth education, and social support.

This milestone also directly strengthens the vision of building a permanent Nepalese Cultural & Community Center in the North Bay Area — a physical home for every Nepali family in California.

How You Can Support UNC's Mission

Now that donations are fully tax-deductible, this is the perfect time to contribute to UNC's growing programs and long-term vision.

Every contribution — no matter the size — brings the Nepalese community in California one step closer to the permanent home it deserves.
